Merrill Lynch Broker Wins $3 Million Defamation Verdict
A jury in Maine awarded a former Merrill broker $3 million. Merrill fired the broker for unauthorized trading and reported that fact to the Central Registration Depository. But the broker denied that, and subsequent to the firing was unable to find work.
The broker sued for lost pay, and lost future pay she would have earned through 2012 when she planned to retire. The jury awarded $850,000 for damages and $2.1 million in punitive damages.
